Straddling the border between the world of amusements and gambling, amusements with prizes have the fun of an amusement attraction coupled with the thrill of low-stakes gambling. A curious hybrid product, AWPs were initially introduced in the UK. They even acquired their name from the UK government in the 1968 Gaming Act as the powers that be decided that the products needed a definition of their own.
Highlighting the fun aspects of the two sectors, AWPs have longevity in the industry, surviving even during tumultuous times. They were well received as they were differentiated from other more traditional gambling machines, such as casino slots.
